This was my speech before doing an open Q&A with the students...

The art of success and survival:
1. Do not stress. It does nothing good for your body or mind.
2. Never take more than you can handle. Understand your limitations.
Overloading yourself will do nothing good for your career.
3. Manage your time efficiently, because no one will tell you how to do it. You will only lose clients and jobs if you don't take it seriously or you wait till the last minute.
4. Understand that you can only rely on yourself to get the job done. Not that you won't have friends and family to help along the way. Self-reliance is the best.
5. You never know when your next gig will be, but you best be ready when it comes knocking at the door.
6. Opportunity can come at a moment's notice and you can not hesitate or else it may just pass you by.
7. Many people want to say it is luck, sometimes it is just right time, right place.  Make that happen by being anywhere and everywhere so people take notice of you.  This means traveling, going to events, and talking to lots of people.
8. It will never come easy even if you get lucky; it takes hard work and determination. And it is a path less traveled with lots of bumps and detours.
9. When jobs don't come knocking, that's when you gotta bust down doors and make your own opportunities.  Make people take notice of you.
10. You will find people that always will have doubts and try to tear you down: you drew this? You should get a real job.... You make a living this way?

The thing to remember is that if you have done all these things to find you are talented, successful, determined... You cannot stop or be stopped. You have to be a force of nature and confident in what you do and make people take notice. That is something they will never forget. You must be fearless.

It is hard work, and it is a choice for the long hall if you make a choice in art. You shouldn't sacrifice for success but sometimes we must compromise to find your way. Always know where you stand with what you do/what you want to do. Have Integrity for yourself and what you produce.

Some say I am a hustler, some say I am rockstar, some say I am true talent.... With a great personality to boot! Something that all these things have in common... Is that I made an impression...  I grabbed their attention with my art, I make them  linger with my words and a kind smile, and they relate me as I  relate to them because I love what I do.

Happiness in art isn't always flush with money but when you love what you do... Even though it is Hardwork, and long hours.  It seems like nothing at all because you belong. It is a part of you.  And the money will follow.

Art is my soul. It shows in the art I create and is what people identify with.

It is easy to relate when you're in the field of pop culture. It surrounds us every day, on the TV, in the magazines, in the movies, in toys..etc.

There easily have been days where I have drawn themes of beaches, environments, and animals... Those are not my favorite. But they pay. And that gives me the opportunity to do some of the things I love..supernatural and action heroes.

You don't have to get a degree to create art, but you best be the best you can be if your serious about an art career. Because they will not accept less then extraordinary!

You should all flee now if you want to be rich and famous. Because art doesn't work that way. People will want FREE, people will want something for nothing, promises of future bounties.... You have to gain the respect for people to want to spend their hard earned money... At their real job on you.

You have to build friendships, clients, and business relationships that give you a name. Then you have to stay ahead of that name.... It can happen in a instant. One day you drew doodles and the next your with a big company and expected to perform in high demand.

But with the ever changing popularity of images, creatures, robots..etc., and with a new found name for yourself.... You can propel a career in art. There are many different ways to success I can only tell you my story. And it is ever changing and growing, just like the industry. You gotta keep up or you will be left behind.

Success in art is not for the faint of heart, but it can be very rewarding for the soul if you find a place where you belong. Nothing is better then the feeling of acceptance and appreciation.  Well money is also really great.. Because being an artist.. You don't get any special treatment such as being with big corporate companies. No insurance benefits, discounts, help etc.

Though there are glamorous parts of a job such as mine, where I travel and meet interesting people. There are always very real things to consider on how you are going to take care of yourself, bills and what life throws at you. A life in art does not unfold like a fairy tale, and there maybe tears, tribulations, and disappointments.

If you can listen to all these things and in your heart you bleed for art. Then this might be something you want to do. Because it is like an instinct, living In your gut. And sometimes you have to just follow your gut. Wherever that may take you and it might just lead you to a whole world of possibilities.

I knew I was different, and something else was waiting for me then another normal desk job. I found it when I went to art school and then again when I went to my first comic convention. No one can be certain of where their life will be or end up.... Sometimes you just gotta go with your gut. You might surprise yourself with what happens or where you go.

This job is for the brave and daring. The determined and patient. Hardworking and free spirited. Know when to take your moments and when to push forward. You can become an inspiration and a world traveler. In all respects a storyteller... this is a life in art.

You can make people believe the unbelievable, have faith in the unexpected. Surprise and mystify all with a brush stroke, a sculpture, a drawing and a mood.  You must live and breathe art and you can become it.

It has come to my attention at Palm Con, people are STEALING my work off deviant art, manipulating it with out my permission and then coming to me for an autograph.  Because of this, I am deleting all old works and will leave up with the companies I have worked with professionally on here and a few recent works until I deem it necessary then to delete. When I work with companies I WILL post and keep here. Please follow me on twitter at BankyArt if you want to be kept update on art projects for cons and artcasts.

Also on the note of stolen work, people who just go to cons and steal work and equipment off tables. It is sad that in our society and when we as artist are trying to connect with you our audience would steal portfolios, original art, and supplies. It truly is indecent and a shame that people can't realize this is our lively hood and how we make our living. A plead to our fans if you ever see someone steal art that you will tell them they are wrong, and let the artist know what injustice has been done.  Help us to make it right!

I am sorry I have to do this. That people can't just enjoy the work I have done on here now. But hopefully too it will give you all more of a reason to see me at events.

ON A HAPPIER NOTE: I WILL UPDATE soon, on Spooky Empire and New York Comic Con. Looks like two more shows will be hopefully added to my convention travels this year.

thanks for reading and concerns!

Break down of the Palm Con for me: It was an early morning for me yesterday as I drank my coffee and hydrated with water traveling from the west to the east coast of Florida. I already had a nice gut feeling about going to Palm Con but for the moment I enjoyed the scenic view of fog rolling in over the vast green 'scapes as the sun dared to try and peek over the horizon. I won't say I had much expectations because you can't when going to a con for the first time. So instead I enjoyed the drive content and calm as I  curved around bends and the sun peeked in and out over hills. I went through small towns and past farmlands with ease. I prayed for my blatter to hold till I could get to the east coast. Then I arrived the street that would soon take me to my destination and prayed for Subway early in the morning. Fate was good to be that day as it appeared on my way and grabbed a quick stop and breakfast. Before I knew it I was unpacking at the Polish American Club and setting up. Everyone is always busy like ants traveling back and forth in their lines to their destination spots at the con from vans and cars. I could see everyone's eyes the determination and hope of a good day but everyone knowing nothing of what could possibly be ahead. Mama Pierro (Andra Walt) was buzzing with excitement that morning as she ran around handing out badges and grabbing up the commission of Martin Pierro as Palm Con Superhero. The smile on her face was enough for me to know that I did my job. Martin kept his cool as he made sure everyone was content and good as they got ready for the event. He was everywhere at once with even stopped for the occasional conversation or concern with everyone. This was a man who willed for this Con to happen and was gonna make sure that everyone was happy and a smooth show. I was able to talk to a few old faces before the show began after I enjoyed my amazing tuna sub with all my fav fixings. Jordan and his brother at the fine screen printing  t-shirt stand across from me then over to Creature Entertainment stand to shoot the 'ish with a bit. I finished my morning hello's with Michael Locoduck Duron and his wonderful children before I made it back to my table. It was mins. before it was gonna begin you could feel everyone's anticipation of a crowd to come in. I busied myself as I do and before I knew it Danielle Soloud, good friend and artist got to her table, as everyone already thought I should know where she is since she had a ways to travel and made it a few min. late. All was right in the world as she was excited to show me her new prints and spilled her copics all over the floor. I laughed and told her to finish setting up and then we could discuss new art things. The important thing was to be ready for the people and her copics falling was a result of not paying attention to what she should be doing. But so then it began the droves of people/artists/ fans in and out winding through the lanes and tables. Short hellos and long conversations of all things awesome and geeky! And also when this becomes all a blur...so short shoutouts to:  Pop Comics, Gene Hoyle and Geek Nation, Toni Amaral who was a great assistant showing up when most needed, 501st for always being my best clients and nicest people, Tony from CJ's comics, Jay InvestComics Katz for the interview and always being a friendly face, Greg Kirkpatrick for always being a great conversationalist, Jeff who is currently doing cover work for Creature Entertainment and rocks on some digital fronts,  Whynot for saying sorry before he even did anything ;), The Brown Coats Crew who are my biggest fans of southwest florida and always make me smile and laugh, Manny Cartoon and Sue Aguilera for being the sweetest couple, and to so many fans who came by who loved my art and contributed to my pockets for future events that I can see you at and spread more of my art love to!

As quickly as it came, it went and as always I am one of the last to gather all my things to pack up and go. I say bye to all my friends and try to make them linger in conversation as long as I can since more often then not they must get back on the road and back to their respective homes. I never want a con to end but all good things must end, so then the eating and drinking conversations can happen. haha Big shout to Chris at the Polish American club because he had to keep up with us comics crews thirst, famine, and need for belting a tune.  Otherwise a very successful wonderful event and evening. It may have been a long drive home hopped up on too much coffee and sugar free redbull on a vast span of road with nothing in sight but fields of farms and country road. But I am thankful none the less. Thanks Palm Con for the great memory!
